The story behind
Sister Mama.
How did it all begin?

When my first pregnancy ended in a loss, I wanted to understand why. More than anything, I wanted every woman to have all the information that might help her avoid my experience. This desire led to the creation of this practice.
Many things are out of our control in this life, but it can be empowering to seek out knowledge and make informed and confident choices with our bodies. Many of the rabbit holes of information I discovered brought me to the power of food in preparation for pregnancy, avoiding complications, and supporting a pregnant body. Honestly, the body at any stage of life.
Unearthing opportunities
to enhance the entire conception journey.
Following the history of food, the basis of our ability to sustain and exist, there are some distinct dark ages. One could argue that we are in one now, with studies indicating that the Standard American Diet (SAD) has only increased since the 1950s in calorie-dense and nutrient-poor food and beverage choices. I would counter that we are seeing a gentle revolution in farmer’s markets, community share agriculture, regenerative farming practices, and more coming back to the center of our communities.

However, sourcing is only the beginning of rebuilding one’s relationship with food and nutrition. Once you start considering what you are consuming, a world of possibilities for feeling better can open up. It was almost like learning a new language or way of seeing. Looking at food now, I imagine all the incredible macro and micro-nutrients that wait patiently to sustain me. For example, when I see red, yellow, and green leafy vegetables, I know that an abundance of beta-carotene antioxidants and the precursor for Vitamin A are hiding in there, just waiting to boost my immunity and keep my skin healthy. When I go for a walk every morning, I get glorious Vitamin D that regulates calcium and phosphate in my body, keeping my bones, teeth, and muscles healthy.
My journey of this knowledge-seeking eventually brought me to the Nutritional Therapy Association, where I trained as a nutritional therapy practitioner. My practice focuses on identifying the bio-individual needs of my client. What do they need to feel their best? Whether preparing the body for conception, healing from a loss, supporting a healthy pregnancy, or postpartum recovery, I am here to partner in your health journey at all phases.
